Grugan Township is in Clinton County, Pennsylvania. The population of the township includes only 51 permanent residents as of 2026. It is located along the West Branch of the Susquehanna with access to the Sproul State Forest and Hyner View State Park. The township has a total area of 68.11 square miles. The area supports many outdoor, mindclearing activities including kayaking, canoeing, hiking, trail running, mountain biking, fishing and enjoying scenic views.
Grugan Township was formed in 1851. The township is named for the descendants of Charles Grogan, later written as “Grugan”. He was an Irish immigrant and American Revolutionary War veteran from Lancaster County. The earliest known settlers of the region were John Baker Atkin and James Burney. The first school in Grugan Township was opened in 1830.
